Paint Creek Lake in Ohio

Trip Overview

Due to the large amount of rain this is my first paddle of the season. This is my third report on this location We launched at the boat ramp near the Paint Creek State Park campground. As you approach the boat ramp area you could see the lake was up an additional 40 ft at the peak of all the rain we have been having. The parking lot and boat ramp were covered with a thin layer of mud. It was very slippery as we were there early in the morning. When we departed later in the day it wasn't bad because the sun had dried most of the mud.

We paddled up towards the Paint Creek inlet because it is the most scenic with all the rock cliffs. We were able to paddle quite far up the inlet since the lake is still about 3 ft above normal and the current was surprisingly not bad. We paddled with ease going against the current.

It was a great 3 hour round trip paddle with lots of wildlife to see. Very few boats on the lake for a Memorial Day weekend.
