Little Creek Reservoir in Virginia

Trip Overview

Our intention was to paddle the estuary at York River State Park, but the wind was up on the York River at the State Park boat launch site so we headed west just across I-64 to investigate Little Creek Reservoir, and found it to be a great place. It's a large reservoir, clear water, lotta little inlets to explore, and very few folks on the water. Since it's a reservoir, there is no gasoline motors allowed. And there were no houses around the shore line. We didn't see much wildlife, but we got there mid-day. This is a well-run county facility with a very small park next to the water. If you plan on cooking, take your own grill as there were none at the park.

Accommodations:

With Williamsburg close by there are ample facilities. The Park has no camping facilities, and closes at dusk.

Fees:

There was a $1 fee per kayak to launch. That was all.

Directions:

Boat launch is about 8 miles west of Williamsburg. Going west on Rt. 60 on the west side of Toano turn left on Rt. 610, go about 1 mile and turn left on Rt. 766 (there's a small sign at the intersection). Pass the entrance to the Park and the next road goes to the boat launch.
