Trip Overview

Flemington, NJ to South Branch, NJ

This is a continuation of trip down the South Branch of the Raritan River. I put back in at the old Lipton Plant (near Darts Mill). This was the shallowest part of the trip. I was slightly stuck just before passing under Rt 523. After this you go through 2 old dams within roughly a mile. Both are easy to cross. As you get farther down, you hit deep water and a major dam obstacle. There is sign that says not trespassing except for boaters passing through and not to go over the dam spillway. It is a 4 ft drop, so I wasn't anyway. Once you get by this, you pass under Rt 202. There was one section here of mini rapids, but after this mainly serene, meandering river. On the trip all the way down to South Branch, I didn't see any boaters and only 4 fishermen.

The river is mainly 1 to 2 feet deep, with some sections deeper. A few places where the boat hit bottom. You have to look for deepest spot in many places particularly near Flemington.
