Ebeneezer Creek in Georgia

Trip Overview

Started out at 10:30am at a chilly 50 degrees from a small state run boat launch a short drive from Rincon. The GPS was set and our trip length was calculated at 4.1 miles to the Savannah River with the creek, and a 4.1 mile return leg against the current.

Once we pushed off and went under the bridge, a rolling left turn isolated us from the put-in. The water is quite calm through the first mile and we paddled steadily just to get warmed up. Another 30 minutes of paddling and the silence that surrounds you is almost deafening.

There are several places to stop and stretch or even have a bit of lunch if you are so inclined. Reaching the Savannah River there is a boat launch with a couple of picnic tables on the right. If you did not want to do the return leg (upcurrent) this would be a good place to have your vehicle.

This is an awesome paddle for first timers as was the case for me. The total time was 6 hours round trip, but we took our time and stopped several places to enjoy the view and dry our socks. The final distance as shown on the GPS was 12.8 miles.

I was in an Old Town Dirigo 120 and my partner was in a Dagger Catalyst 13'. Neither of us had any trouble negotiating obstacles as a couple of trees will block your path. We did have to ditch once to go around a fallen oak, but we were back in five feet from where we pulled out.

Accommodations:

There are restrooms and garbage cans at the Long Bridge Road launch.

I only saw Picnic tables at the Savannah Launch.

Fees:

There may be fees at the Savannah River launch, but there are no fees at the Long Bridge Road launch.

Directions:

From I-95 exit 109 Port Wentworth/Rincon.

Take GA21 North through Rincon to Ebenezer Road on right.
Follow Ebenezer Road to the flashing light and turn left onto Long Bridge Road. As you approach the bridge look to the left for the boat launch.

If you want the downstream only:
Continue on Ebenezer Road to the end and look to the left for the Savannah River boat launch. (Fees may apply at this launch)

Resources:

I mapped it out on Google Earth, then transferred the coords to my GPS to set our waypoints.

There are many twists and cutbacks in this creek and a GPS with waypoint capability may save you a little paddling...
